Sister Nancy – Bam Bam

Bam Bam Sister Nancy:

Jamaican pioneer female Disc Jockey and singer Sister Nancy (also known as Muma Nancy) recorded Bam Bam in 1982.  The reggae/dancehall song samples Toots and the Maytals’ 1965 hit song of the same name and was housed in her album One, Two.

Jamaican reggae artist Yellow Man who was Nancy’s tutor at the time first covered the song. Consequently, Nancy – a teenager then, decided to lace her lyrics on the instrumental.

Needless to say the song was a hit, it was massively successful and quickly became the ultimate dancehall anthem.

Bam Bam has been subject to many covers and samples by various artists. The latest addition to the decade-long tradition of Bam Bam remixes and samples is American rapper Jay-Z. He samples the song on his 2017 song ‘Bam’ which features Jamaican reggae artist Damian Marley, housed on his 4:44 album.
